NV Energy Company - The vitality of our communities and surrounding areas stem from the health of the environment.

NV Energy collaborates with environmental and community organizations to further mutual goals of sustaining high environmental quality, protecting natural resources, retaining open spaces, and preserving biological diversity. The vitality of our communities and surrounding areas stems from the health of the environment. The following are examples of environmental partnerships and programs that help the earth everyday.

US Department of the Interior

The US Department of the Interior, in cooperation with NV Energy and other representatives from Arizona, California, Nevada, Native American tribes, and environmental and regional interests, have formed a regional partnership to develop a multi-species conservation program aimed at protecting sensitive, threatened and endangered species of fish and wildlife and their habitats.

Nevada Division of Wildlife

NV Energy works closely with the Nevada Division of Wildlife on many projects throughout the state. One such project is the cooperative effort with the Division and environmental groups to save members of an endangered fish species that lives in the intake ponds at our Reid Gardner generating plant.

Desert Research Institute

The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is committed to developing new technologies to replace fossil-burning power sources with alternative energy options. The DRI Research Foundation currently administers NV Energy's GreenPower Program whereby NV Energy customers can make tax-deductible donations that are invested in the construction of solar electric generation and solar education in southern Nevada.

Clark County Parks and Recreation

NV Energy partners with the Clark County Parks and Recreation department to help develop the Las Vegas Wetlands project, donating solar lighting for the interpretative trail and building additional trails.

Nature Conservancy

In cooperation with Nature Conservancy, NV Energy sponsors and participates in cooperative projects to preserve natural areas and create trails and recreational adventures.

Audubon Society

NV Energy participates with the Red Rock Audubon Society to present "Audubon Adventures" to more than 4,800 Clark County School District students and in addition hosts monthly meetings at our Las Vegas Pearson Facility. NV Energy also participates in bird counts which provide information to scientists and government agencies who use the data to determine species diversity and ecosystem health.

Great Basin Breeding Bird Observatory

Employees from NV Energy participate in the inventory of breeding birds in Southern Nevada. In addition, the company participates in the scientific review of the "Nevada Very Important Bird Areas." Results will be published in a forthcoming publication, "Nevada Breeding Bird Atlas."

Wild Wing Project

This project brings educational programs to Clark County schools on raptors of Nevada and what NV Energy does to protect raptors from power line electrocutions.

Friends of the Desert Wetlands Park:

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to preserving and enhancing our local wetlands. NV Energy employees have donated time, expertise and materials for construction of wetland trails and nest poles. Soon, wood poles will be added to construct bat houses in a joint project with U.S. Fish & Wildlife, Nevada Division of Wildlife and Conservation District.

HawkWatch International

This nonprofit organization was formed to study the migration patterns of hawks, eagles and other birds of prey. Nevada Power supports their efforts by reporting all bird encounters associated with power lines. We also use flight patterns to determine which structures may be in migration pathways and use special equipment to make structures safer for these larger birds.

UNLV Solar Energy Dish System Research

NV Energy is assisting UNLV with their two-year Department of Energy funded project that will enable engineering faculty in the Center for Energy Research to demonstrate and refine the functioning of solar power system dishes and instruct students in solar energy technology and design.

UNLV Nevada Small Business Development Center Business Environmental Program

NV Energy co-sponsors and provides conference and office space to enable the NSBDC to provide free and confidential third-party safety and environmental assistance to businesses statewide.
